When you visit the site

We count visits so we know which pages, conference materials and regions are useful. For each visit we record: the date, the first page you opened, the placement you came from (for example the stand banner, a handout or LinkedIn), the name of the website that linked you here, and your approximate location — country and state or region (for example “Australia, New South Wales” or “United Kingdom, Scotland”). Your location is worked out by Cloudflare, our hosting provider, from your connection; we store only the country and region names, never your IP address, and we do not record your town or street. We set no cookies and use no advertising or cross-site trackers. These counts are grouped, so they cannot identify you.

When you scan one of our QR codes

Our printed materials use QR codes that open short links such as octopisim.com.au/q/banner. Each scan adds one to a daily count for that placement, then takes you to the page. If you go on to request a walkthrough or send a message during the same visit, the placement is saved with it so we know which materials helped.

When you book a walkthrough or send a message

We collect what you type in — your name, work email, institution or organisation, role, the time you chose and anything you add — together with the placement you came from, your approximate location (country and region) and a Cloudflare Turnstile result that keeps out automated spam. We use it only to arrange and hold the conversation you asked for, or to reply to you. We do not sell or share it, and we do not add you to a marketing list without asking.

Where it is kept

Visit counts, bookings and messages are stored in our Cloudflare account (Cloudflare D1, a database in Cloudflare’s network) and booking or message details are delivered to us by email through Microsoft 365. Bookings and messages are deleted once they are no longer needed, and at most after 24 months. Visit counts contain no personal information and may be kept longer.

The simulation itself

OctoPiSim is a simulation platform. It uses simulated patients, never real patient records. Nothing on this website contains real patient information.

Your choices

You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time using our contact form (choose “Privacy or my data”). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
