Accessibility statement
Built to be used by everyone.
Last reviewed 2026-09-22
We aim for this website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AAA.
What we have done
- All text meets the enhanced contrast ratio of at least 7:1 (4.5:1 for large text). The build checks the colour palette automatically and refuses to publish if a pairing fails.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone. The octopus concepts are a standard tab list: use the arrow keys, Home and End.
- A visible, high-contrast focus ring shows where you are, and a skip link jumps straight to the content.
- Animation is decorative and never needed to understand anything. It respects your device’s “reduce motion” setting, and every page has a Pause animations button.
- Nothing flashes. The optional “arc” effect in our design lab draws once and never flickers.
- Buttons and links are at least 44 × 44 pixels, so they are easy to tap.
- The layout reflows to a 320-pixel-wide screen and to 400% zoom without sideways scrolling.
- Abbreviations are written out, unusual terms are linked to a plain-language glossary, and every concept starts with a short “In short” summary.
- Headings, landmarks, lists and form labels are marked up so screen readers can navigate them. Form fields explain what we need and why, and errors are announced.
- Times on the booking page are shown in your own time zone, and nothing on the page times out while you fill it in.
- There is no audio or video on the website. The booth screen loop is a separate, silent kiosk page with a pause control.
How we test
Before each release every page is checked with the axe-core engine against WCAG 2.2 A, AA and AAA rules at 320, 390, 820 and 1440 pixel widths, and keyboard operation is checked by hand. We are adding regular screen-reader testing (NVDA with Edge, VoiceOver on iOS) to that routine.
Known limitations
Some content is written for clinical educators and uses professional language. Where a term may be unfamiliar we link it to the glossary and give a plain summary. If you would like any content in another format, please ask.
Tell us about a problem
If anything on this site is hard to use, tell us through our contact form (choose “Accessibility”). If a form itself is the problem, it works fully by keyboard and screen reader; you can also ask a colleague to send it for you. We aim to reply within two business days. If you are not satisfied with our response you can contact the Australian Human Rights Commission.
